WHAT WE DO & OUR LITTLE STORY

Why We POPP

Life’s short — so we keep it fun. We don’t take things too seriously. We like trying new things, following curiosity, and indulging in all the good stuff life has to offer. Good drinks, good food, good music, good people.

We’re mostly known for craft beer — but POPP was never just about that. It’s about bringing people together. It’s about those moments: a cold one in hand, a track you didn’t expect, a random conversation that turns into something more.

Over the years, we’ve been lucky to build a community of some of the loveliest humans around — the kind you’ll meet at our Gżira shop, at our events, or hanging out at the Social Club.

Oh — and yeah, we also make a pretty solid Craft Lager, Pork Crack, and Dawgs.

What's POPPIN?

POPP is a collection of things we enjoy doing, all built around the same idea of bringing people together. There’s the webshop — a curated mix of craft beer, wines, spirits, snacks, hot sauces and other good finds, delivered straight to your door. The Gżira shop is our physical home, small and personal, where you can drop in, browse, and pick something up for now or later — or have a drink on our porch. The Social Club is our take on a modern local — a space for drinks, food, music, and community, inspired by the Maltese każin but with a fresh approach. We also run POPP events, mostly known for our Day Out series, but also markets and parties, creating spaces where music, food, and people come together naturally. And then there’s POPP Lager — our own beer, brewed by Lord Chambray in Gozo, crisp, clean, easy and gluten-free. During select events you can also find our infamous POPP Dawgs — legend has it they’re some of the best hot dogs around.

Our Story

POPP started with a simple idea. Late 2019, Robert — a craft beer and wine importer — and Miguel — a brand designer at the time — started talking about building a direct-to-consumer webshop focused on craft beer, good drinks, and snacks. Craft beer in Malta was still hard to come by — available, but not that accessible — and it felt like the right moment to do something about it.

Beginning of 2020, with lockdowns on the horizon, we decided to go all in. We locked ourselves in and three months later, on June 1st 2020, the POPP webshop launched — and took off quicker than expected.

In 2021, as things started opening up again, we took things offline and opened the Gżira shop on July 1st — a small space that quickly became part of the routine.

In 2022, we got into events. The first POPP Day Out at Vincent’s Eco Farm — just the two of us and Keith behind the bar — somehow turned into 700 thirsty people and a day to remember.

2023 saw the launch of POPP Lager on draft, followed by cans in March 2024.

By 2025, with a growing community around everything POPP had become, we opened POPP Social Club with the support of NOVI — a space with a bit more soul, our take on a modern każin, built as a proper social spot.
